About a week ago I bought a 3 inch long S. eupterus for my 75g. My tank has a few small hideouts, and a larger series of rock caves, where it's been hiding out almost exclusively. I've read other descriptions of eupteri where theyre always out patrolling the tank, but I rarely see mine -- should I be worried?

Do eupteri have the same tendency to lower their dorsal fin when ill as most fish? I ask because its is erect and appears healthy to me.

Water parameters are normal, and the stank is stocked with only peaceful community fish, all of which are significantly smaller than the eupterus. Any ideas or consolations?

Give it another week or so. Many bottom dwellers take a while to get comfortable and be willing to come out in the open very often--and some just won't. I'd be patient, and not worry too much.

I used to have one a couple of years ago that was very active. I recently picked up a tiny one (< 1") who hid constantly. In 3 months he grew ridiculously fast to about 4". There was a point in the middle where he became pretty active but now he's gone back to hiding most of the time when the lights are on (except at meal times). Even though I have lots of caves and driftwood in my aquarium his preferred hiding spot is still upright in the top corner behind my cansiter fiilter intake.
