Hey guys, I have a small (10g) freshwater community tank and up until now, my fish have been living in harmony, I even have a baby platy swimming around, but the past couple of days, Ive noticed erratic behavior out of my albino cories.
Yesterday, one of them went belly up. he is still alive, so I put him and his brother into a medical tank so they can not spread whatever it is they have. They don't swim around at all, currently are just lying on the bottom not moving. and their tail sections are covered in what looks like internal bleeding, or lots of red spots.
if anyone has some information, please help, I really love these guys

Looks like some fit rot and septicemia going on there. Treatment for septicemia would be tetraclycline. What are your water parameters and what is your normal maintenance schedule on that tank?

Remember to 1/2 dose them cories arent that good with meds. I have to agree with Debbi. fin rot or septicemia. Did they by any chance get accidential squished during water change etc.?

last night, my ammonia was 0.0 and the ph is 7.2 nitrites and nitrates should be real low too. i try to do a 1/3 water change every week and a half, and clean the gravel with almost every water change.
im sure they werent squished, or anything, because its due for a change. one of em died this morning in the medical tank, (1 gallon, under gravel filter, light aeration)
i also noticed in my main tank that during feeding this morning, it wasnt quite the excitement that it usually is when i feed them. i especially noticed my killie didn't seem interested in any food. usuallly he gobbles up a pellet as soon as it hits the water.

so can i get the treatment for septicemia at petsmart, or do i have to orer it? thanks again for the help, i dont want to looe my other corie

What else is in the tank besides the baby platy and the killie?

a female and male platy, couple tetras and a gouramie
All these in your 10G?

How lonmg has the tank been running? You said you nitrItes "should be low too", can you test this as well please?

When I hear red streaks/spotting I tend to think high ammonia/nitrItes first.

What were your last additions and when?

Certainly a very large WC and Vac can't hurt and should do a lot of good until we know what's wrong.

well, the tank is well cycled and they were all phased in a when i got the tank. im on my way to pick up nitrite/nitrate test kit, and maybe some medicine..

i wil probably do a >50% wc and vac later today or tomorrow.

You should be able to get some brand of tetracyline at any of the major pet chains and probably a lot of the local fish stores as well.

My thoughts are that you're very well stocked in that 10G and not keeping it clean enough, so I would suggest do your water changes more frequently and gravel vac every time. Add to a well stocked tank some leftover accumulating food...and you've got a combination for bad water quality. The small tank + heavy stocking = more frequent tank maintenance.
