Ok last night I noticed that one of my australian rainbow fish was breathing faster than he had been the last couple of days and I noticed that his dorsal fin was frayed. My water parameters are fine. The fish was not staying at the top constantly but I did notice a change in the fish. This morning the fish did not eat as usual, still breathing rapidly and I thought I saw small white specks on the fish's face and what looked like smears of white on the scales of his body. I decided to move my neon tetras out of their 2.5g and transfer them into the 36g and move the rainbow to the 2.5g and use it as a hospital tank. Only one problem am not sure how it happenned but one of neons got injured not sure if he got caught in a decoration but his tail got severed poor thing I had to euthanize him and felt so bad. My other neons are fine I have two more in the tank. I called my LFS and they suggested using aquarisol for my rainbow and I increased the temp water to 85 degrees as directed. Should I add aquarium salt too I read that it is a good treatment for disease since I am not sure if this is ich or some other parasite or fungus how much salt do I add? I am not sure if the fish has ich, a parasite or fungus. Do you treat for atleast a week with aquarisol? The bottle really doesn't say. Any help will be appreciated. I did remove the carbon from my sponge filter.
