One of my three black mollies seems to have lost movement of her tail. She's only swimming around using her front fins, and her tail just kind of hangs down (instead of being level with her body). Is there anything I can do? I'm not sure if she's in pain and should be put to rest or if there's some kind of medicine or something to help her out.

And if she needs to be put to rest, what's the proper way to do that? I don't want to do this, but if I have to, I will.

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

Does anyone know of anything that would cause a fish to lose mobility of her tail? She has trouble getting food off of the surface, and she doesn't do a whole lot of swimming. Does anyone have any help/advice?

Can you post some more info. about the tank? Size, other tank mates, ph, amonia, nitrite/nitrate, temperature. How long have you had the fish? Is the tank cycled? Is the fin clamped like closed up real tight? I wasn't sure if that is what you meant. I would hold off on putting it to sleep until you can figure out whats going on. But in regards to that question, you should be able to do a search and find alot of posts that recommend different things. search for euthanize

Sorry... I left out the important stuff.
It's a 55 gallon. There are 2 ottos, 4 platys, 3 mollys and a few snails.
The Nitrates are 20, Nitrites and Ammonia or 0. Ph is 6.9. It's moderately planted, with DIY NO2.

His tail wasn't moving at all, just hanging down since yesterday morning. I just now observed him and noticed he seems to have gotten a little movement going. Maybe he's regaining his usage of it? Now I'm really confused, but feeling much better.

Also, we got 4 mollys and 4 plattys 2 weeks ago Monday. One Molly a few days later, and one had babies a few days after that. The tank finished cycling 4 weeks ago.
