One of my cichlid's had a puffy eye and I have observed him "shivering" or "seizing" in the tank. I quickly took these pics and moved him to quarantine. Any ideas on the ailment and treatment?

although it is one eye only and unlikely to be environmental, check water parameters for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate with a good liquid drop test kit to exclude this; one of the major causes of cloudy eye/pop eye is high nitrates or ammonia/nitrite present. pics a bit blurry but looks in good condition otherwise, so again unlikely but always check, and make sure all tank equipment is functioning.

otherwise, possibly a soft tissue injury (has he been scrapping with his mates?) causing the eye to swell up, or a bacterial infection of that eye.

for now, keep the water pristine in the Q tank (well done you for having one) - i.e. shoot for nitrates below 10; daily water change would be great and monitor for a few days to see if it resolves - a healthy fish has great healing power. some melafix/pimafix will do no harm whatsoever.

if no improvement and it worsens, consider maracyn as a broad spectrum anti-bacterial.

best of luck with him :)

Great Advice ^^

will it die?
No, he should not if you keep him in an ideal environment. In most cases this is caused from a bacterial infection. Simply offering prestine water often helps the fish to resolve this on their own. But like Coler said, Melafix can't hurt ;)

Melafix is junk IMO
it sounds like your fish has whats called pop-eye To treat this problem you can use a treatment such as Tetracycline from Mardel Labs. If possible, increase the quality of food given. Supplement with vitamin enriched foods. And keep the water changes up like Coler recomended
