Let me get my parameters out of the way:

My tank is cycled, they are

Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5

The tank has been running for close to two months. It is planted with Java Fern, Anacharis (Najas), and some Anubias. My nitrates have not gone above 5 for the past week.

My stocking before my platy decided to start dropping fry yesterday was 3 Mickey Mouse Platys and two Dwarf Blue Gouramis, 1 male and 1 female. This is the second male Dwarf in the tank.

None of the other fish are affected by this but both of the Male gouramis I have put in the tank have gotten it. I have moved him to a smaller sick tank. I have not tested the water in there yet, but I did put some gravel and ornaments from my cycled tank in there to speed it along, I am also dosing prime in there to counteract whatever spikes I might be getting in there.

What both of the males have gotten seems to be a whitish-greyish fuzzy spots on their body, the second one has also some noticable tail rot. He has only been in the tank for a week and was purchased from a different pet store than the first. I did not have a hospital tank when the first one got sick and when I noticed it was not getting better, I euthanized him.

I am now on day two with Dwarf Gourami in the hospital tank, treating him with Maracyn but it looks to be getting worse and the fuzzy stuff is spreading. I think it may be Columnaris, but none of the other fish have any signs and they have all been in there the longest. What is it about these fish or my tank?

To top it all off, my female platy just had fry aand they are in the main tank.

Any advice is appreciated.

What, are you all actually working today??? Heh, I kid. Just want to know if I am using the right meds for what I am seeing on his tail. Thanks!

I would recommend taking your snail out and treating with malachite green. It's an overall cure that aids in the cure of parasites, fungal and bacterial infections. I really cannot see anything in your picture, but by what you are describing, it sounds like in might be fungal. Your snail has a lot in common with parasites, so it will succom (die) from the treatment if not removed. Be careful not to get this stuff on you or in you. It is known to cause cancer.

Best wishes!
