My Protomelas taeniolatus appears to be sick. I came home from work today and noticed that he was very dark and seem to be swimming a little weird. After some lengthier evaluation, here's the symptoms:
1. Dark color, almost black at times.
2. Slight swelling between the pectoral and anal fins. Most noticeable by a steep indent right before the anal fin.
3. Seems to be disoriented. He'll swim around normally, then all of the suddent just starts "drifting" until he bumps into something...then he'll swim away and do the same again.
4. Didn't have any interest in eating today.
5. Heavy breathing
Quick Stats:
amm - 0
nitrites - 0
nitrates - 10-15ppm
pH - 8.2
Temp 80F
125G
Filters: 1 Emp 400, 1 AC500, 1 Magnum 350 w/Pro 60 bio-wheel
The fish is about 5 inches and I've only had him for about 2 weeks.
Personally, if it's something that will likely require exotic/expensive medications, I'll probably just drop the 20 bucks on a new one as I haven't really gotten attached to him yet.
Thanks.
