I'm working at a place, and they have a fish tank. I though it was a single specimen flowerhorn tank, but it turns out that there was a 5" green terror in there as well, hiding. His fins are severely clamped, over 1/2 of his body was covered in rusty brown fuzzy stuff, (red velvet I think) and there is a massive lump on his side just behind his head. The 10" flowerhorn looked albino.

Turns out that they had not done a water change since summer and NO3 levels in the tank were off the scale even with a 50/50 tap water/tank water mix NH3 & NO2 levels were not detectable (API master test). Started with 50% daily water changes in the tank and medicating with coppersafe.

After a week of this enough of the infection was gone for me to actually identify him as a green terror, I couldn't tell before.

The terror is now in a hospital tank as he has open sores and the flowerhorn still in the main tank is regaining color nicely, bright yellow with a peach hump.

I am now treating with melafix and pimafix and after 24 hours of this his sores are smaller but fins are still very clamped and the lump on the side is still there.

The main tank is no longer getting medicated and will still receive a 50% water change daily for the next week or so to eliminate medications and nitrates (still 40ppm after a week of daily changes) then will be reduced to 25% weekly.

The hospital tank is getting 50% daily change.

Any ideas on what the lump is and how to treat it or any other suggestions on other things I can do to help this sick fish?

sounds like you are doing everything right, maybe you should try using some aquarium salt in the main tank, not sure if it can be used with the melafix/ pimafix. i believe the temp should be around 82. and i would think you would want a neutral ph because of the flowerhorn. so ph around 7. as for the hardness i am not sure. aquarium pharmacuticals (might be spelled right) makes some good meds check them out. good luck keep us posted. hope i helped

These 2 fish will no longer be kept at work. They don't want to have the "hassle" of aquarium maintenence. They have decided to get some kind of lizard or snake instead.

I have a 120 gal that has been cycling for several months now empty these fish will have a new home with me.

I don't know how these 2 fish are even still alive.

only one drawback to putting these guys in my 120 gallon, I just planted it and the flowerhorn digs like crazy.

Was more concerned with getting that fuzzy stuff off of him than taking pics.

It was horrible and the terror is still in sad shape.

I guess that when I move these into my 120, I will put a divider in between the plants and fish.
