I have had this little guy for about 9 months now (never actually determined if he is truly a GSP, but I believe he is) and he never "grew up"
I recently got back from a deployment and he has a weird patchy scaleless wound on his head.
He is housed with 3 adult archers, 3 adult sailfin mollies, 3 glass perch and a crawfish. if looks like he is getting beat up but I have yet to see any indication of harassment. I tried to treat him in a hospital tank w/ melafix, but he began to twitch and heave, s I put him back in the original tank
any idea what this is?
thanks for any input!
55 gallon brackish tank (SG.008) ammo, trites, trates ph all OK

I'd say the crawfish is the culprit. They are nocturnal & your puff sleeps pretty still at night. Melafix is definately the answer, & quick! Make sure you are using the proper dosage. You can dose the whole tank (it wont bother your bacteria), but get that crawfish out of there! They will eat anything they can get their claws on. I'd do a good water change too.

not to mention get rid of that crayfish ASAP. Get fiddler crabs they're safer and don't go after the puffers. However you puffer may eventually eat them. Mine ate one and left the rest alone. Had them for awhile now and nothings happened.
