Well it seems all of my long pelvic mdoka are male. I thought I had at least one female, but I no longer believe she is... I think he's just been trying to keep his colours dim to avoid harassment from the other males, as my wee one was looking rather yellow and blue stripy the other night. The unfortunate thing is, is that it seems like they're one of those species where you'll only get one really *great* coloured male all the time as long as there are several in the tank. One of my males is gorgeous all the time, two of the less dominant ones take turns being beautiful, sometimes when the dominant one is not in sight they look great, but get pretty dim as soon as he is around. And my little one always looks girly brown... except for the other night. I suppose I'll never get any fry from these guys, boo. Sigh. I'm not sure what to do. Locally I certainly can't get anything other than crappy looking labs from a box store. Shipping from where I got my africans is $65... so unless I'm ordering a bunch it works out to an awful lot per fish. Any thoughts?
Not him at his flashiest, but for some reason some of my other pics won't attach...
