Look, I'm not going to make a big deal of this, but I'll say this for everyone to consider. If someone can't be trusted to play a game within the rules, then how can they be trusted to do anything within the rules?
As a society, we're dealing with this very painful (and problematic) issue right now. I'm a high school teacher and almost all I get all day long is 'why do we have to do this, why this way' 'Rules are stupid' 'blah, blah, blah'.
Some people are alive ONLY because it's against the rules to kill them. I'm not talking about Sadaam Hussein and his ilk. I'm talking about the guy who cuts you off in traffic. I'm talking about the guy who answers his cell phone (on speaker) in the movie theater. Are these big deals... maybe, maybe not. I pay good money to see a movie and I don't want to listen to this clown. If there were no rules, then I'd be perfectly happy popping a pair of 10mm holes in his head and dragging his body to the dumpster. Fortunately, I can't do that because I follow the rules.
If someone can't follow simple, easy rules that DON'T make a difference, how can they be trusted to follow hard, complicated rules that DO make a difference?
If you are busted by the cops, you want them to follow the rules... in fact most criminals demand it and can get out of whatever they were doing in the cops break the rules. But, to get the cops interested in them... guess what, they broke the rules.
Some people's attitude is that everything is OK for them, not matter what. That attitude is literally destroying American society. At this point, you're saying, 'He's exaggerating.' I'm not. Ask someone who was around in the '40s and '50s. The US was very different then. And in many ways, better... at least for people that follow the rules.
BTW: You know why 95% of all traffic jams happen? Because someone didn't follow the rules. If one person gets away with something, suddenly many people think they can and we get traffic jams, cheating in schools, drug use on street corners, politicians lying while under oath... and everyone gets away with it.
Rant Over
