So I added a school of 8 good sized silver dollars to my 165g tank. I noticed this am some had damage to the front od their face and thought it could just be from the pet store but sitting dowbstairs for a while I have heard two hit the glass tops HARD. So hard in fact that the last one to do it is sitting on the bottom, seems like it will be ok but it can't ve good for them. Any idea why they are doing this? Or how to prevent it or do they always jump this much

What are the ammonia level? Nitrites? Nitrates? Also any other tanks mates? All those things can help us find an answer. Silver dollars are known jumpers but i didnt think they would consistently jump like you mentioned

This may be a dumb question... assuming your parameters are fine, are there water droplets on the glass top from condensation or filter splash? Maybe something floating on the surface or on top of the glass? Just trying to eliminate the obvious :)

you could always sit and watch or set up a camera to help figure it out

Maybe they're establishing the pecking order?

They could be jumping because they where acclimated to quickly or possibly the water parameters are not good, after reading your posts you seem pretty intelligent so maybe they are just not used to your water and want to jump back home :D

Put some floaters in there for cover.

Do you have bright lights on the tank? A while ago I adopted two silver dollars from CL and anytime I would turn the lights on the tank, they would flip out and start rushing around the tank blindly, smashing themselves into the glass. They wouldn't stop until I turned the lights off. Maybe its just the ones I have, but my experience is that most silver dollars are a little neurotic :/

Dim the lights a little till they they get use to the tank. They maybe startled by your or some other movments.

Sorry for the delay to answering questions: parameters were tested with liquid kit and came back fine, I also did a water change the day before I added them. Everything the rest of you mentioned are very good possibilities lol I have glass tops that get condensation and splash on them, my lights are very bright LED's and when I noticed it the lights had just been turned off, they were drip acclimated so they should be ok with that but its always a possibility.

Something is driving them up there. Check for aggression, only real reason a non-regular jumper would jump.
