silver tipped tetras

Hey all,

Does anyone have experience with silver tipped tetras in a community setting of other small fish.

They look great at the LFS but I have heard they can be very aggressive.. sort of on the level of serpae tetra aggressive..

True? anyone mix them with other small characins succesfully?

I have 6 of them with 6 emperor tetras and 4 bosemani rainbowfish. I have had no problems out of them. They are one of my favorite tetras.

LOL mine are the first fish to run whenever something out of the ordinary happens. Mine are not agressive at all.

However I must point out that many people have had congo tetras that are entirely peaceable, but I managed to get some murderers. Killed 2 of the 3 rummynoses I put in there, less than 2 hours after I put them in.

I have a small crew of 5 silver tips that seemed okay with a few guppies but ate the fins off of my algae eater. However, they have accepted a couple of flying foxes into their group.

Siver tips are really attractive fish, but IME do better in large groups (8 or more) rather like Tiger Barbs (without their level of aggression - they are not that bad). The usual warnings of anything with large or flowing fins, especially if not very active, will be at risk. The comparison to Serpaes is quite good, but Silver Tips are still a bit milder than the Serpaes, again IME
