Simple Sump Plans

Hi,

I am planning a sump for a 120G, this is what I have so far:

The pump will be a Quiet One 4000. The scrubbers are in bucket with holes punched in the bottom and the lid. The filter sits on top in a tray with a drip plate lying over it.

Does this look adequate for a cichlid tank? Any ideas for improvements? I am not sure about dimensions. Also, what level should the water be in relation to the pot scrubbers?

in my opinion, at LEAST HALF of the pot scrubbers should be out of water.

putting all of the pot scrubbers under water provides little oxygen for the aerobic bacteria to grow.


Only changes i would make are:

1. add 2-3 4" baffles to reduce microbubbles.
2 lower water level OR raise the pot scrubbies 2/3 out of the water

That is exactly how my sump is set up but it has 2 "towers". No baffles, nothing fancy. Leave as much of the bio media exposed as possible.

Also, awesome choice of pumps!

Somtimes simple is best...
I run the same setup on my 55gal...made it with a 5gal bucket full of scrubbies, and an 18 gal rubbermaid container...just stuff that I had lying around...when running there is about 5 gallons in the sump at all times , leaving about 2/3 of the scrubbies exposed to air...works great
