I just got 3 flower shrimp (bamboo) in my 20 gallon. I've got a current (bought an Azoo powerhead that someone recommended on this site and its been great) and it is heavily planted. What if anything, do I need to feed these guys? My fish get a variety and my cory cats get algae wafers. Do they just filter feed or do I need some really small stuff to put in and float around in the current?

I just know them as bamboo shrimp or singapore flower shrimp - but they are brownish so who knows?? Anyone out there who can answer?

I don't feed my bamboo shrimp anything. Most of the time they have their fans up and eating, so I'm assuming everything is fine. I love watching them with their fans up it's very interesting.

It's true. As soon as I put them in the tank they found the current, some plants and began fanning and eating. No adjustment time there! I've heard they change colors as they wish. Is this true? Right now mine are a brownish.

I've only really seen them in two colors - brown and orange. They're usually brown at most LFS, but once they've settled in your tank, they'll turn and stay orange.

If they're fanning and feeding, then all should be fine.

are these the same things as wood shrimp?

Hi Olive,

In Singapore, it is all known as Wood Shrimps. They belongs to the same familiar as the Bamboo Shrimps. Between species, the different is in the color, stripes and patterns found on their body.

if you start to see them rubbing there fans on the glass rocks or anything else they are trying to find food so you will need to add suppliments in this case. not sure what i just read about it.

They were using their fans on driftwood yesterday, but I don't think I was out of food for them in two hours (they are constant fanners aren't they?). On another thread someone wrote in saying that crushing flake food into powder form and adding it to the tank helps. I might try that. Any other opinions on food?
