is it possible to keep a single tropheus bcuz i know they need large numbers to keep a group but can you just keep one singly?

I was given 1 recently. He's the only tropheus i have. It does show some aggression but no more than my other african cichlids in my 55g.

2 lelupi
x n. multi
2 julie or some other rockdweller.
maybe 1 alto. comp.
maybe a catfish to cleanup.
6-8 praecox rainbows

I don't know about keeping one, but we have kept two Tropheus duboisi successfully in our 75g mixed African tank. I bought them a year ago because they looked cool as juvi's. I had no idea, nor was I told anything regarding their diet. From what I have read, we have been lucky we haven't had bloat problems with them. Just make sure you offer them lots of veggies. As far as aggression, they chase each other quite often, but never any fighting. They are very cool IMO.

Huh... Thats strange, I only copied/pasted their name and some how it added a link? Actually, ours have a white band.

No, not at all... Only each other! lol One is a little bigger than the other and will give chase any/every time he sees the other one. It never goes any further than that, I've never seen them fight. They a good size too, but everyone gets along fine.

will it eat small fish????

The multies, the comp, and the rainbow will not like the tropheus level of activity. I have kept leleupi with mine and currently have a juli in with them without problems. I did keep some calvus in with them for awhile, but it was a calvus who had a horrible disposition and had no problems defending himself. I have had 11 calvus/comps over the years and he was the only one I thought was capable of keeping in their tank. I would never keep my multies in with them.

Of course, I am talking about my colony, but the activity of one would still be high, and it would affect your fish. If you want something that is active and not going to have an adverse affect on your fish, try to get an LFS to bring in some cyps. I know they were brought up in another thread as being bad shippers - this way the LFS absorbs the cost of loss.

well the only porb with them is that ive been told multiple times that my 55 is too small for a school of cyps and that they need space and large numbers. i can get them no problem but from what ive heard i shouldnt......
