I have a huge(30in) piece of driftwood. It does not want to sink though, I have been soaking it off and on for the last two weeks. It stays at the bottom of the tank until the water completly covers it. Right now I have two rocks on top of it to keep it down. My question is, About how long does it take for driftwood to sink?

Hmm.. should be sinking by now seeing how long you have soaked it.

You might have to attach it to a piece of slate or something to get it to stay down.

Different wood density takes different amounts of time. It could take a month it could take 6 months it could never sink. It shouldn't take much slate to keep it down. I'd get 2 pieces about 4 inches by 2 inches and tie it with fishing line to each end. That should keep it down and not take up to much room under the wood.

I use a piece of natural slate tile to sink stubborn driftwood. Drill a hole in it and screw the wood to the slate base. This is especially useful if you want the wood to stay in a position that gravity would not like it to.

my piece of driftwood is just now sunk on it's own. it's been in there for 6 weeks and 2 days ago it finally sunk and it has a huge piece of slate attached to it and still wouldn't sink. I bought it from the lfs. I just sat it in the tank and pushed it down by hand and let the tip of the top balance on the tank center bracket to help keep most of it under water.
