ugg. what a mess Hurricane Jeanne was!

I did find out some interesting things about my fish tank though:

The fish made it the first three days while we were in Orlando just fine. But, they were gulping air from the top of the tank when we got home. A battery operated air stone held them over the next three days.

Algae will grow even in the dark!

Little 'things' grow in your filter during six days without power. The fish had a hearty feast because I didn't change the filter BEFORE the power came back on. I won't be making that mistake again!

Plants really do need light to do well!

Yes- filters can go toxic if left sitting full of stagnated water for too long.
I pulled my biowheels and let them float in a tank for the duration of my power loss. With my cannister filters I changed out all the media before restarting it except some responsible for biofiltration, but switched out over half of it. And watched the tank very closely when I started it back up.
