Size-Gallons Equations

1 gallon at room temp = 231 square inches

1 gallon at room temp = 231 square inches

Ummmm.... that would depend on the specific "room temperature" and actual make up of the water. Salt or fresh? And definitely not square inches.

If the question is the more generic, the formula is Length x Width x Height / 231.

in inches:
Lenth x width x height = cubic inches of your tank.

take this number and multiply by 0.00433
that's how many gallons you have

like so:
48x18x24=20736in
x 0.00433=90gal

also, a gallon is 8.34 pounds

LxWxH/231 is the easiest to remember IMO

QFT

If you want to get more specific on how much water your tank can hold, measure the inside of your tank.

And then that doesn't account for substrate, decor, and the fish.

The actual amount of water a tank will hold is usually much less then the given tank size by the manafacture.

Actually, it was just so I would know it. Also, to see how big a 500g pond would be. (mostly curiosity.)

I reversed the Formula to determine the third Dimention of said pond attwo foot deep and 5 foot wide.

HLW/231=G
H=2'=24"
L=5'=60"
(24"(60")(W))/231=500
(1440W)/231=500
231(1440W)/231)=(500)231
1440W=115,500
W=115,500/1440
W=80"
W=6.6'

Thanks fur formula all.

OT: What does QFT mean?

yeah, dividing by 231 is easier to remember.

I'm not sure why I picked up the multiply by .00433. Guess I read it somewhere and used it a couple of times.
