Skimmer for 240-gallon tank

Hey all! I've been researching protein skimmers for a solid week now. Man, these things are like tube amplifiers--so many details, so much nonsense, it's hard for a newb to know what to do.

My tank will be a 240-gallon FOWLR (until it inevitably becomes a reef tank). I'm trying to keep the skimmer around $400 without buying junk, and I've been looking at skimmers rated for ~400-gallon tanks. (I guess some skimmer manufacturers actually rate their models accurately, but most do not.)

Do Bubble Magus, AquaMaxx, and Aqua Euro make quality products? I could do an ASM skimmer for about 25% above my price point, but perhaps I don't need to do that.

Assuming it will fit, the skimmer will go into an Eshopps R300 or RS300 sump.

Any thoughts on the above would be most appreciated. Thanks!

BM and Aqua Euro have been around.

Never heard anyone complain about their BM skimmers for the $. My LFS has them on all of they tanks and they skim like champs and seem well built.

BM NAC9 and BM Curve 9 are some good examples for your size tank.

For a 240-gallon setup, I’d definitely look at surface movement and filtration capacity before choosing a skimmer. A good skimming setup can help remove debris and keep the water surface cleaner, especially in larger tanks. I’ve also seen people use pond-style Pond Skimmers when they need more effective surface debris collection, although the right option depends on the tank design and plumbing. It’s worth checking the flow rate and dimensions carefully before buying.
