The slime coats on my fish seem to be peeling off. some have some fin loss mostly front fins. water is in check and have been doing water changes daily. anything else i should be doing?
multiple fishes tetras and loaches. the coat appears to crack around the scales and peel off. lost a few loaches today and a tetra. just have no idea what kinda meds to use. no i dont have a high quality cam.
What are your parameters: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, temperature, and if possible the gh and kh, and what kind of testing equipment do you use, liquid or test strips?
I used to use the strips until I learned here on AC that they are very unreliable and give incorrect results most of the time.
It sounds a bit like the effects of ammonia to me... but I'm not sure, without the params and/or pictures.
Could you tell ua a little more about your tank.
How long set up? What size? How many occupants and what kinds? What kind of filtration? Plants or plastic? Substrate?
You do daily water changes; how much water do you remove and replace each time?
What is your maintenance of the filter?
What kind of water conditioner? Testing equipment (oops I already asked that)
Any new fish added recently?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but the answers may help us figure this out.
29g sand, fluval 305 and ac50, live plants, 78*. set up for a year
1 large angelfish-infected
1 pearl gourami-not infected
5 harlequin rasboras -infected
5 glowlight tetras- only a couple infected
had 8 kuhli loaches both black and reg. found a few reg ones dead so far.
also had 2 clown plecos both were found stiff as a board a few days ago on the sand fins were damaged and looked like slime coat was pealing on those also.
I have a api test kit the chemical one. everything has been stable. ive been doing atleast 75% water changes for the past few days since i noticed the plecos had died.
I added a few black kuhlis a few weeks ago and they are healthy as can be so far, they where quarantined for 2 weeks (thinkin that was not enough) as that is the only new fish.
