i'd say probably agree with snakeskinner and say baby whales or elephant noses. both use electrical signals to communicate and navigate so the brain has to interperate the feed back. i guess that doesnt take intelligence but the fish and its brain have to be pretty evolved. none of the fish i own show any extrodanary intelligence so i'd stay with the baby whales and elephant noses just because of what i've read.
I can't comment on arrowanas or elephant noses, as I've never kept them. My tiger oscar is, by far, the smartest fish I own, and she's still quite young. I also find female bettas to be very smart and full of personality. The plakat male also seem smarter than the fancy finned ones. My female con is brilliant compared to her hubby.
These fish arnt far behind dogs. They will lie on their side sometimes if u dont pay enough attention to them. They are happy if u move your fingers near the tank. If your in the same room as your aquarium they're usually watching you.
I'm with the arowna and Oscar crew. They are as close to a real pet as you can have. Nothin like stickin my finger in the tank and have em play catch. They are truly the best of em all.
Well unlike most local weathermen my WEATHER LOACH is a true meteorologist and actually lets me know when a storm is coming
Yeah I know that's an instinctual reaction based on barometric pressure but beyond that....
I have actually and actively played "Simon Says " with him. When he's laying in the front and I go up close to the glass, say simon says and gradually open my mouth in an O shape he responds in kind. I must confess that I CAN fool him when I don't say simon says and regardless he does mimick my mouth movements. I don't know if I can quite claim this behaviour as intellegence but I do know, as a relatively new aquarium owner, that this interaction blows my mind !!
