snail eating swordtail corpse

Today I discovered that one of my velvet swordtails had died, but what was unusual was that my snail was completely wrapped around it. It had sucked off all the scales and left a corpse that whas white down to the flesh. Is this normal behavior? I've never seen anything like it.

snails will eat any available food in the tank, they will not harm living healthy fish, but as soon as a fish dies it is fair game.
