I picked up two black mystery snails just to add more variety to one of my tanks and have found them interesting to watch. I've never had snails though and wondered how much I should worry about feeding them. There is plenty of excess fish food for them to pick up at the bottom of the tank, but I've read online that its good to drop vegetables in for them. Should I do that and if so how often?

The veggies are good as many of them are calcium rich and help with new shell growth. If you notice that your snails new shell growth looks thin you should start to supplement calcium. If you notice excessive pitting (little round holes) you may need to buffer your water to prevent this erosion. I feed a mix of veggies, snail foods I make, and sinking wafers. If your water is hard you will probably not have to buffer, but i would make sure you supplement their diet regularly to promote regular growth.
