hello,i just got a new 55 gal.and am going to move all fish from 29 gal.now i have lots of snails(not by choice)how can i beshore that no snails or eggs make it in to my 55gal?i have live plants and centerpeices.can i use small amount of bleach to wash off before i transplant everything.i want NO snails.thanks

I have read somewhere that people have dipped their plant leaves in a diluted bleach solution to make sure that there are no snails on the leaves but I have no idea if this works. You may want to try posting this under the aquatic plants forum for more information.

You could also try putting a piece of lettuce in the tank that has the snails overnight and in the morning pull the piece of lettuce out. This is what I do.

I use a saltwater solution. Soak the plants/decorations in the saltwater for a few minutes. Live snails will drop off. Carefully inspect for eggs and remove egg deposits by hand. The eggs can be rubbed off or remove the leaf from the plant if there are eggs on it.

is there a tropical fish that i could add that would be ok with mollies that would eat snails?thanks

Yo-Yo Loaches are great for snail cleanup

someone told me that clown loaches were good but i dont know about with my mollies!and how big they get

my clowns in a 55 are in with mollies, except rare times the clowns are out on the bottom of the tank or bumming with my Ghost knife in a log. they are about as big as a large thumb and just as big around. I have one in with my Angels too

Clown loaches will be ok in a 55 for a while, but do grow too large for it.
They will keep the snails in check, but not completely eradicate them.

There are folks here that really feel that snails benefit your tank, and I agree. Just get something to keep them in line.

Hi
My 55 gallon was completly over run by snails, golden apple snails, I added 2 yoyo loaches and withoin 1 month I find one snail about evey other day! The best thing is they eat normal fish food too!
