I was wondering... since my lfs doesnt have any snails, could i possibly put 2/3 in from a small creek that runs by my house or would that be asking for disease and the like...
i also have an extra 10 gallon that i could put them in first... would keeping them in there for a while show signs that they are carrying something bad?
Thanks

Have snails, will ship. Ramshorn and "pond".

Depending on where you are from, and what the local residents are, you could probably do this. I would definately QT them either way for at least a good four weeks. Snails have a bad reputation on disease which is IMHO undeserved, but they are one of the carriers of black spot if I remember correctly. The nice thing about black spot is that fish are an intermidate host, and even if you import it, it will die out unless your fish are eaten by a bird. Either way Quarantine would be wise. Check your PM's as well, I dropped you a note.

I've always found I could obtain a **free** unlimited "starter" supply of snails, just by purchasing some elodea or other plants from the LFS!! :D Check the underside of leaves, looking for a clear gelatinous substance (might have visible white dots in the middle, which are snail embryos)... almost a sure-thing if you check the plant tank and find snails cruising around!!

hey, yeah i went to my lfs today to check out the plants like you said and the shallow glass aquarium they were in...
No snails!! How strange is that? fish stores usually always have snails with their plants don't they?? oh well...lol
