If there is a new hobbyist (or new to snails) who would like to get some easy to raise/breed snails. I would prefer that these snails go to a new hobbyist (or just someone new to snails) than someone who wants to feed them to their Puffer.
$6 for shipping should be fine- be warned of weather though- here in SC it has been very hot lately.
I'd like to remove about 20 to 30 from my tank. This will be a mix of 4 different species and multiple different colours. Nothing overly fancy- but a quick and easy way to make a step into the world of aquarium snails.
I'll pick 'em out as I see them- so I don't know how many of each you'll get.
You'll get Bladder Snails (aka Pond Snails/tadpole snails/Physa)- they have various foot colours and shell colours/patterns- some of mine have light feet others dark feet and shells range from transparant to almost black and gold to brown.
You'll get Ramshorns a few reds, but mainly Leopards and brown. I also have a couple golden and black ramshorns- although I don't have many in these colours so if you get them it's an unintentional bonus!
There will also be Quilted Melania- these are like Malaysian Trumpet snails without the red dots only they get a little bit bigger and have a darker coloured shell. There won't be a tonne of Quilted Mels because I recently shipped out most of my excess quilted mels to an ACer. I will make sure I send some though.
I also have some red ribbon Malaysian Trumpet snails in my tank- although not very many- one hitch-hiked in a month ago and has been trying to populate the tank by itself!
I will try and grab at least one MTS for you (it's all you need to get a population started).
All four of these species are excellent clean-up members and will eat left over food and any dead plant vegitation- they are safe with healthy plants though. It is almost non-existent stories of these snails attacking healthy plants (other than duckweed) unless they were being starved.
Bladder snails and Ramshorns are great at eating algae. Quilted Mels and MTS are good at burrowing in the substrate to aerate it. These four are four of the toughest snails around- which is why they're so common.
These snails typically live off what they find in the tank- not usually being spoiled like some of the larger snails... they will appreciate fresh veggies, calcium supplements (tums) and "Snail Jello" however and you will get better looking healthier snails if they're fed accordingly.
As a warning they are sometimes called "pest" snails due to their ability to reproduce quickly. You shouldn't have an "infestation" of them though if you don't overfeed. These snails will only take over if you overfeed your tank. Once you have snails- you will always have snails. Personally I don't see this as a bad thing as they do much more good to a tank than bad.
I only have one "bundle" of snails... I really don't have many excess other than what I'm sending, my ghost shrimp eat most of the smaller bladders and rams.
I'll probably ship out Monday next week but can work with you.
PM me if interested.
