Hi all, was just starting up my first Daphnia cultures and I've read that snails help to create food for them. What would be the best snail for this, I've read several different opinions and just wondered what you guys thought was best.. the only kind I can really find around here are apple snails and 'mystery snails'.

Thanks!

Sarah,
try this
Daphnia like algae, yeast, and several other small particulate type feeds. We use Our Plankton Feed, Nanochloropus, yeast, spirulina, mixed Algae, digested trout chow and Selenastrum (to name a few) to feed our daphnia. For the Selenastrum, we feed until a light green color is in the culture water. For our plankton feed, we feed a few drops per liter, or around a 1/2 dropper full to a gallon.

Thanks for the link! I had just been reading that snails were helpful with Daphnia so I thought I should have one or two in there with them. Guess You don't really need em!

No you dont, and actually you can order Daphnia from that site as well. I got some years ago and my colony lasted for awhile before it faded. I fed them all to my hets. They were great live food. I got other little critters as well so it was fun to watch that large glass jar with moving life.
