so what's the scoop on snails? some people hate em, some love em.

i've been thinking about adding 1 or 2. 20 gallon with 2 dwarf frogs, 1 albino clawed frog, 2 swordtails, 2 loaches, 2 sharks, 2 balloon mollies, 2 sunset platies & your garden variety pleco

will everyone get along? will my albino eat them? can they take a slightly salty environment?

I don't know if I would even add snails to that tank. It is pretty heavily stocked. But I am all for snails, I have them in all of my tanks. If you keep your tank clean and don't overfeed your fish the snail population stays low. But over feed and they explode in numbers.

I enjoyed having snails in my tank until this last one came along. He ate everything! Stripped all my plants bare. Pulled him and he is living in a fish bowl getting greestuff dumped in to fill his belly everyday. I think snails are awsome, but I keep them seperate from my tanks now. I got two bowls full, I have no idea what I'm going to do with them all.

My snails have never destroyed any of my plants. You must have had a Columbian Rams Horn which apparently can ravage a planted tank.

Uh, that albino clawed frog is going to eat everyone else in the tank, but the loaches or pleco may get their revenge by erecting their spines and stabbing the frog while beaing eaten.

Is that Albino mature yet? If not, RTR's right! It'll make dinner out of just about everything in your tank! I've got a tank with two Albino's, 2 mature Silver Dollars and a Two-spot Catfish. I feed them small fish on a regular basis that are the size of your swordtails, mollies etc. They love them! So watch out!

I've never had trouble with snails in any of my tanks. Most of mine are Apple Snails and do a greyt job keeping down the algea and even eating shedded frog skin.

well rtr you were right...either that or you jinxed me *LOL* came home to find my albino with a rather large sunset platy half way down his yap........

he had been such a peaceful inhabitant before that. well i learned my lesson!!

fished him out, took him back to lfs & got 2 more african dwarfs & another platy to replace the one he ate

what is the connection between overfeeding population explosion?.....i'm glad we don't reproduce when we over eat!!!!!!!!!

But humans are doing just exactly that. Populations generally expand to match the food supply. The nitrification bacteria you develop during cycling, the snails eating the algae and undigested or uneaten food in the aquarium, and human populations expanding in close to the same manner.

BTW, I like snails and have them in all my tanks which will support them.
