Snails

I was kinda thinking about getting a snail, but I am still indecisive. I am looking for one that will get fairly large, 2-3" give or take. I don't want it to destroy my plants.

The most important thing of all, I don't want to sit down one day to watch the fish and see 10,000 baby snails stuck to the glass. Is this out of the question for snails?

Here are a few I like from LiveAquaria.com . Any suggestions on any of these or similar snails?

Japanese Trapdoor Snail (which sounds too good to be true, loves algae and won't eat plants)

I've had the gold ones pictured above. They never touch my plants, and are a riot to watch. Apple snails in general are an easily controlled population. They lay eggs above the waterline in a foamy looking bundle, easily removed.

Here's a really good website on applesnails: http://www.applesnail.net/

The snail pictured with the label "Ramshorn" is not a real ramshorn, it is a flat-spiraled Apple snail (aka Colombian Ramshorn) and a voracious plant eater - do not use these in a planted tank, other than plants to feed the Colombian Ramshorn.

I found some black mystery snails online and I will try to get one if the seller will sell me a single one instead of a group.

Anything I should be cautious when recieving a snail like this? For example, anything you need to do to them like you would do to a plant before putting it in the tank, or do you treat it more like you would a new fish?

Thanks

Being old and neurotic, everything organic gets QT at my house. Plants, fish, snails, wood, whatever.

 Priceless, thanks for making my day
