What size tank do you have????
I wouldnt recommend anything less than a 20 long for a young ball python. We have three at our house. One thing to know is that they are picky eaters and can give you grief. lol And if you can, go to a good reptile store to by your pet. I am very picky on where I buy my pets, more so than I am on my fish. Find either a good breeder or a Reptile only store. Be very picky on your pet.
Also another recommended snake for beginners is the Corn. I have no problems feeding my little pigs. I have a corn snake that I can hold in my hand and feed at the same time. All the corns we have are frozen feed. My girlfriend's youngest ball is live feed only right now.
One of the questions you will want to ask is what does your snake eat, frozen or live rodents. All snakes will eat live but not all will eat frozen off the bat. It takes awhile to slowly get them to eat frozen feeds. But frozen is the way to go. You can always keep them on hand, in the freezer. They will not attack and hurt your pet snake when left unattended.
Also a few pointers, when you get your new pet, any snake. Do not handle it until you have given it its first feed. And will have to wait about 5 days before handling it after it eats. You do not want it to regurge.
Also you must remember this and this is very important. If you do not want to keep an animal for the next 30 years, do not get a snake. These critters live longer than a cat or dog when properly cared for. And the sad part most do not last that long. Many die from neglect and poor care. It is a big responsiblity getting an animal like this. I say good luck. And I must tell you, it was Roan who got me into this Hobby.

**** you woman.
