My boss and i are looking for these fish ive done some serching and can not find them for sale. Did they get banned from the US? and does anyone have any information on obtaining one or two of these fish? thanks in advance for any information about these fish.

not sure if it was a rumor...but i heard they are illegal to keep in captivity now...I was in the same boat
:(

They were banned back in 2002. You need a special permit to import them. I have no idea how one obtains such a permit, but I'm certain it's neither easy nor cheap.

The problem is that these fish grow to over 3 feet in length very quickly (2 to 3 years) and then irresponsible people who cannot house them any longer throw them into local lakes and streams where they wreak havoc in a very short time.

do all of the species get that big? i heard that there was one where they only got to be about a foot long. and you said that they banned them back in 2002 was that a total US ban or just most states? thanks again for the info guys!

thanks for the link although i never found the part in that article that stated what 16 out of the 50 states that made it illegal to possess a snakehead fish i will take your word on it. from what i can tell it is still legal to own one as a hobby or food in most states but you can still get fined if you release the fish into the wild. so with that being said is it illegal to sell the fish everywhere in the US. and if you can own one as a "hobby fish" where do you get one from? again thanks for all of the info webcricket

also it stated that not all of the fish get up to 3feet in length some are dwarf species and do not get that big. so this must be one of the ones that my boss was speaking of i deffenitly do not want a 3 foot killer fish in a small aquarium.

Asking people how to get a fish that has been banned in the US is like asking a cop where to buy crack.

I get understand what you mean, but rough choice of words. But yeah, even if you can get snakehead in your state, maybe you should suggest different type of fish to your boss.
