I drove out to a big thrift store that I don't visit often. And yes I did find a tank. What I found was a 1950s style metal rim with a slate bottom tank.
Borrowed a tape measure and measured it.
24 1/4" * 12 1/4" * 14 1/4"...OK so kinda non standard size,mostly because of the thick metal rim. I'm thinking a twenty gal.
I asked about it and didn't buy it because it was $22..I decide that was too much for an old tank which may or may not hold water. Though I like the slate bottom....Don't see many of those anymore.

They said they'd go lower on the price and asked how much I'd offer. So I shrugged and said I'd have to come back anyways due to the measurements.
Anyone know much such an old school type tank is worth?

Offer them $10 :) ....Also see if they have a water faucet out back or something that they would let you fill it up and test for leaks.

I have an old metal frame, and love it! they reseal pretty easy. if its a twenty, i would offer 15.

I would have jumped at for twice the price. It is hard to find the slate bottom tanks.
