okay so i was away from my house for a couple of days, I came home and couldn't find my snail. Mind you "he" is rather large. I looked all around my tank and couldnt find it. I moved the tank, only to find "him" curled up in back of the tank on my shelf.

apparently one of my parents left the lid open, after feeding it.

I had no idea how long it had been out of the tank for, so I put it back into the water, thinking maybe it wasn't dead (me in denial)

Went to bed. Next morning, the snail is back up on the glass, alive and well but with a hole in it's shell.

First thing. With the hole in the shell regenerate by itself?

Second. apparently my snail is a female. unless they are asexual. Because I came back from vacation today (about a week later after the incident) only to find it doing this?!?

does anyone know how long the gestation period for a snail is? I have had it for several months now, and it is the only snail in the tank. Before I left I had found a sack of "eggs" the size of a peanut shell, and cleaned them out of the tank. I am going to do the same thing with these new ones as soon as it is done laying them.

they are eggs right? cause i don't know what else they could possibly be.
I don't mean to sound ignorant, it is just that My last snail never did this.

any feedback would be great

Those are snail eggs! And I know a snail can store it's eggs or sperm fertilized for months before giving birth. The shell won't regenerate, but it is possible you can repair it for him. There's information about that on applesnail.net
