Solar powered battery pumps

I was wondering if solar powered pumps with a battery were any good? Can you use them in conjunction with a filter the same as a mains powered pump?
Do they still work during the UK winters?
Any pros or cons welcomed, whats your opinions?

The solar panel charges the battery which runs the pump. The charger is only a trickle charger so if you have a few days of dark clouds your screwed. Not worth it in my opinion.


PS: Are you a pike fisherman? Or do you just like the fish?
