Some ideas needed for this tank..

I Like!!! Very nice....I like what you've done with the place, lol. Sharing your tank pics helps a lot of people with their designs, so thanks for sharing. BTW, I have a little structure that looks like the Parthenon in Greece(sp?) that's in my son's 12 gal. tank and it looks great. Although now I'd better check my fish for PTAFDS (post traumatic artificial fish decoration syndrome)...LOL.

<<OH, and SoCal...thanks for the suggestion on the heater...I was worried about putting it too near the plants...>>

Based on my experience with a 50W and 200W heater in different tanks, I wouldn't be concerned at all about the plants touching the heater. I have masses of plants surrounding both heaters and all they do is grow.

Thanks Reb...

I was wondering about those little rocks I have near the middle...if they would look better just a bit over to the left.....they are about the same color as the "fake" rocks on the other side with the lighthouse on it. I'm thinking it would balance things out a bit if I moved them over, but I'm not sure. Maybe to the left of those little sword plants ??....anyone have a suggestion ?

im haveing the weirdest case of deja vo- I SWEAR ive seen this EXACT thread before- down to aknif talking about asemetricity!
whats going on? am i going crazy?

also to add my $.02, I like 'real' looking stuff, especially driftwood and natural stone, so i like the improvement (i really dont undersand paying the $$ that fish stores ask for the fake decor and castles)

I'm with ya there Lobo....now that I have experienced the "castle thing"...I much prefer the "Real".

I'm leaving the fake stuff on the right side for now...because it does look better with SOMTHING there...instead of empty. But, I do want to get that echo-complete and then I'll look for some mylasian driftwood or something and more live plants. Once I get that setup I'll see what other livestock I can put in there that will work well....any ideas ? :D (there are 2 german blue rams, 2 neon dwarf gourami and 4 otocinclus...the tank is a 29. I would LOVE some discus, but..(sigh)..tank's too small and it's in a high traffic area  )

Now I got to figure out what to do with that costly plastic rock thing....I wonder what I could get for it on ebay.....

Oh, and you probably did read this awhile ago...it's an older thread that I pulled up..since it was .."on topic".. :D

p.s. When you do decide to remove the overpriced (IMO unattractive, sorry ) resin decor, make a cave with aquarium safe rocks, or driftwood, and you'll wonder how you ever kept a tank with retro decorations.

See? I told ya ;) . The tank looks really good Emg :thm: ! And I'm sure once you fill it in with more plants and maybe larger rocks or driftwood, it will just keep getting better and better.

I like the new setup. Very cool. Sorry to nitpick but IMHO I think there is something needed in the middle. Maybe driftwood, oh maybe a tall plant with a mid sized plant around it. But even without anything Its a very nice tank indeed.

On another note i have castles and i like them :sim: LOL

oh maybe a large "real" rock lol with some short plants around the base........hmmm i think I just gave myself an idea for my 20 mmmwwwaahahaa!!!

LOL TBone !! WHAT is that avatar !!  TOO Funny !

Yeah, I know about the empty spaces...I am going to put this together slowly and am actually waiting on ordering the Echo-Complete...I would rather get that substrate before I put any more plants in here. The other fake stuff in the tank will eventually go and be replaced with driftwood and REAL plants...lol...but my lighting in that tank is pretty inadequate...only 2-20Watt bulbs, one 4200K and the other 2800 for a 29 tank..not much for variety options....in fact, hardly enough for much of anything but java moss to thrive...lol...but I'll give it the ole college try. I think maybe I should have gotten 2-6700K's in there but I'm not really sure how K's work with watts and wiether or not it would make much of a difference with such a small amount of wattage in there...

Your asking the wrong person about wattage lol. ............I'm really glad fish arent as hard as plants and I'm glad I spend more time researching my fish then I do my plants too......heheh....heh...... I put plants in and hope for the best  for the most part my plants flourish. others not so much. All the science going on about plants and Co2 and watts per gallon makes my head spin.

Ps. the avatar is my striped angel that i edited in paint shop. I'm glad you like it. :D

I have to laugh every time I see it Tbone...lol....

BTW....just picked up a nice chunk of driftwood for that tank...took the last little castle thing out to make room for it....here's a pic...

This piece set me back for about 35$ !! But I think it's worth it. It's a nice heavy piece...already seasoned and....it doesn't float !!

Now, for more plants around this monster...and decide just which way I want to set it in there. I have like 6-8 different poses I could place this thing in...lol...all sides look great ! Also have to get rid of that silk thing behind it...wish I had better lighting in this tank....dang, only 2-20watts over it....it's a 29 gallon. I have been adding flourish excel and the plants do like it...but so apparently does the algae...lol...there is just no getting away from that stuff..! I don't overfeed, do regular cleanings and water changes... Probably just not enough light to get those plants going so they can use up the phosphates fast enough.

Perhaps I need 6700Ks...right now I have 1-20watt 2800K and 1-20watt 4200K over this tank......any thoughts ?
