I’m starting a new 10 gallon tank (actually an old tank). I’ve grown up with different fish in different tanks, but I would like something new. I have seen too many guppies and mollies over populate, disease, and die. I’ve kept happy and healthy gouramis, swordtails, and cory catfish. What might be an interesting fish or combination of fish that would be happy in a small community? Eventually I would like a large set-up as well but that may not happen for many months or even a year. So, I would be happy with fish that grow or breed, but they would need to be happy in a ten gallon tank for many months.

I also like planted tanks, but the fish arte more important than the plants.

Well why want you try to keep some neons maybe 5 or 6 you could also try about 4 ghost shrimp instead of cory enen though corys are good too. Then maybe add about 2 fancy male guppys, well let everyone else see what everybody thinks about this arrangement.

add 1 male guppies and 3 femails and 2 femail bettas. only add femail bettas with guppies. i tryed it and well one guppies ended up a little finless. but i guess u dont want guppies so i am not sure.

Well I'm not anti-guppie. I just want an interesting combination. One that will still be benifical for the fish.

I have a 10G with some glass catfish(aka ghost catfish) and Serpae Tetra's.

The glass catfish look really cool, one of my fav's, because you can see their skeleton, and they move kinda funny/interestingly. And the Serpae tetra's are pretty active, and get along well with the catfish.

I'd get 3-5 of each.

Then maybe a couple shrimp and a snail to keep the tank clean, or an Octilis (sp?) catfish or 2, or cories work.

I would not go with glass cats, they can be pretty delicate and get to be about 4", not really ideal for a 10g tank. What about a couple of dwarf gouramis with some corys? Or a betta with some corys (or otos) and shrimp, or a snail?
