I have two dawn platys in a tank by themselves. I purchased them three days ago and they've been fine so far. Water quality should be good also. I checked it last night and got 0 amm, 0 nitrites and 5ppm nitrates, PH 7.8. However, today I noticed that the male has a problem with his one pectorial fin. He was fine yesterday but today it looks as though some of the fin may be missing and it's white along the edge. it doesn't look like the pictures of ich that I've seen. Could he have just injured it and would an injured fin appear white on the edge or could this be some kind of rapidly growing fungus? He doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He came out to feed and is swimming normally. He's not rubbing against anything and the female is perfect. Should I treat him now or wait to see if it develops into anything...

Perhaps the other platy was nipping or biting at him?

Or is it fin rot?

Does it look like this tail?

No, it doesn't really look like the picture. I'll just have to keep a watch on it. Meanwhile I'm going to do a large water change. Can't hurt.

Thanks for the advice! I added some salt and melafix and he's all better now! He was a new fish so may have been injured before I bought him.
