I had a day to myself while my gf had class all day (optometry school), so I decided to make an adventure of checking out some LFS on the island (in 90+ degree weather, haha). All in all, I had some fun and got to check out some great LFS. In case anyone gets the chance to visit NYC one day, here's what I found. And if anyone who lives in the area have any suggestions, please chime in for next time I come back to NYC!

1. New World Aquarium, 204 E. 38th Street (supposedly was the best LFS in the city), CLOSED. Card board on the windows, was extremely disappointed with this one.

2. 38 Aquarium, 371 Broome St., mostly flowerhorns and red parrots. They had gorgeous super red severums - very tempting but I just don't have the room for them.

3. Win Tropical Aquarium, 169 Mott St., very small LFS. Notable stock includes koi angels and marbled crays.

4. Aqua Star, 172 Mulberry St., another very small LFS. Don't remember much besides various goldfish and $2 RCS.

5. Pacific Aquarium, 46 Delancey St., best LFS I visited in NYC by far. Good variety and healthy looking fish. Also had a decent variety of plants. They had some blue angels I was tempted to get, but I didn't trust that they'd make it in the heat. I did go back on Friday before leaving NYC and picked up some fish (pictures below).

6. Petco, 860 Broadway (Union Square). I know, not technically a LFS, but I was impressed as far as Petcos go. I didn't see any dead fish and a lot of their tanks even had sand in them. They even had some very good looking discus and a very good variety of plants. I was tempted to get some ozelot swords, but changed my mind last minute.

LFS #'s 2 - 5 were all in Chinatown and within walking distance (thank goodness). There was one more LFS in Queens that I've heard a lot about, but it was just too out of the way. I definitely plan on visiting one day, however. As I mentioned, I did come back to Pacific Aquarium before leaving on Friday and picked up some kohaku (koi) swordtails. I haven't seen them (healthy) at a LFS in years and they just had too great of a deal (3 for $12) that I couldn't leave without grabbing some.
