Spotted Box Fish: removal problems

I don't understand the concern about the clownfish dying. It is exceedingly rare that boxfish cause problems--the only ones I've experienced were when they killed themselves inside of a bag. My suggestion, unless you really want to remove this fish for the clams, is to let it stay. Otherwise, I don't think you have any big issues moving it, but it's not something you really need to do. Just be quick and gentle moving it if you decide to do it. You can always throw in a good portion of carbon if you get concerned.

Unless your tank isn't large enough to handle an adult boxfish...

One word: WIFE

She loves her clown fish....and is paranoid about old Box Pig.

Me, I don't care if he kills anyone...

I've won my battle to keep him in the tank....but the catch is if he kills anyone....he's out.

I moved the clam he loved to nip at higher in the tank vs on the sand...he's a bit annoyed with location due to intensity of light increase...but is now coming out... and old Box PIg has no interest going near him with 4 Hydor swooshing around the area....

sounds like a nice tank!

Its ok....Not where I want it just yet...but slowly getting there. :nilly:

SPS grow soooo slow.... minus those Monti's my wife put in...

ill upload the current tank sometime soon. It's changed a lot since I last posted.

Slightly off topic, but on the clowfish topic.

I rescued a couple of clowns (false perc's) from my wife's co-workers tank. He had let it go totally fallow (along with a coral beauty and a sailfin tang). I have a 75g tank, with a ton of super healthy GBTA's and was hoping they would have enough space to work things out with my current clowns (also false perc's). Not so. Even though they are all fairly small still, my clowns tried to murder them both. I had to pull them out and put them in the refugium (not ideal).

I don't know anyone else in the area with an aquarium to take them, and they were going to die. My wife loves those clownfish and she is really bothered by the whole ordeal. It's tough. I just started a major dual tank build and so I should be able to split them up into their own tanks eventually.

Btw, the coral beauty has become a great addition, the sailfin tang vanished. There one day (healthy as could be) gone the next, not a sign of him anywhere.

I guess my solution is, get a new tank! hah.

No local store to donate them to? only thing I can suggest. My clowns don't mess with anyone as long as they stay away from the Hammers they host...

Maybe adding a host for the new ones? I don't know if you have room to add a large anenome like those Rose bubble tips or anything to help at all. =\

I do know the problem on a smaller scale...once I got a second host...the wars stopped. The dominant Clown took the host he wanted most....and new guy took the ignored one.

Currently they both love each other and host that hammer colony I have...i guess they grew on each other in time.

I have 5 GBTA's (anyone want one, they split like weeds!) at the moment, the 'old' clowns host on two at the very far end of the tank. They were chasing the 'new' clowns into the rocks where I would find them all huddled up together, pale, and terrified looking.

No we have two local fish stores. Petco (I'm not a monster) and a place down in Carson City that is terrible. They are better off in my refugium (i gave them a small gbta in there as well) they they are at either of those places. It's only a 12g refugium but they seem happy and healthy now.

My plan at the moment is to make one tank a reef, and the other fowler. I may move ALL the GBTA's to the fowlr (and probably get rid of a few) I haven't decided. I love Anemone's, but they make it so hard to keep healthy coral.
