I recently saw a spotted green puffer at a local fish store and thought it would be fun to raise. I did a little research on the puffer and have learned it is a fairly aggressive fish, which can live in freshwater. I currently have a 60 gallon aquarium which houses a small Jack Dempsy (2.5") and two small Firemouth Cichlids (also about 2.5"). Any chance a puffer could be added to this set-up.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

Sorry to say that putting a green spotted puffer in with your other fish is not a good idea as even though they can be kept in freshwater when young, brackish water is essential for their long term health.

They're a cool fish, maybe it will inspire you to set up a brackish tank sometime in the future so you can keep one. :)

I recently got three 1.5" green spoter puffers by mistake. I though those were drwarf puffers, but no. GSP require a raising salinity level as they grow. I'm keeping mine in a 20 gl tank. I started with fresh water, and raised the salinity by 0.002 points per week. Currently, the tank water shows a SG of 1.006, and should be raised over time.

GSP require full salinity when adults.

I also made the same mistake and bought 2 for my 7 gallon :( , but i have seen puffers mixed with cichlids but it could only happen for a short time because of salinity issues.
