Howdy all,

I'm trying to generate flow through a 4' long x 13" wide x 14" tall aquarium that has two dividers in it. The dividers separate it into three equal size tanks but allow water to flow through. I'm using sponge filters in each compartment but would like water to exchange evenly.

Does anyone know if I could by a rather inexpensive (<$25) powerhead and build a DIY spray bar to provide current to all compartments?

The powerhead would have to pump upwards a few inches in order to get over the dividers. Do I need to use a pump or can I retrofit a powerhead???

I've researched this and heard of people using spraybars off powerheads but so far nobody illustrates this or has pumped up and over an opstacle.

Thanks in advance!

If you get a decent quality one like a Penguin, I think it should be able to manage it. Besides, as long as the spray bar is underwater, there's no static head pressure on the powerhead once the system is fully primed anyway. The only thing you'll have to worry about is flow reduction from the spray bars.

Yeah. An AC PH ( Aqua Clear power head ) would e good too. I'd cut a hole in the baffle and rout the bar through that.

Thanks for the input sploke. I think I'll try this first.

Thanks PEMfish, I thought of this as well. I very well may have to do that....we'll see.

Thanks again!

i got a 21 gallon shrimp tank, and a small powerhead in there for circulation and it's running my foam filter, but i attached just a eheim hose and a eheim spray bar to the end and boom i got this.

Penguin 660r powerheads come with a 3/4" hose barb attachment for the output...and a sponge filter for the intake.

...I use the hose barb attachment to drain the tanks, but I think it would be a great way to drive a spraybar too.

That sounds like exactly what I need. And it figures becuase I just bought two Maxi-jet 1200's. Oh well, hope they work out.
