spreading sword plants

ok, you can spread wisteria by cuttings, how can you spread swords? i was thinking of cuttings, but dont want to wreck my plants if they dont grow, or maybe you seperate them, like you break them off so that there is still roots on the 2 peices of plant. well help me out.

They'll have offshoots that have plantlets along their length,

just cut the plantlets off when they have some decent roots and plant them.
