Starfish missing a leg...

I've noticed over the past few months that my green brittle starfish will be missing the very tips of his legs. I assume they were maybe bitten off by a fish or perhaps from a crab - or maybe it was just a natural process. Today as the lights clicked on I found that the entire leg, all the way down to his body, was gone. His legs are thicker than a pencil, and there is nothing in my tank that could do that. Is this a natural reaction to a problem with my water, or some other factor?

maybe he got stuck in a rock? I know my brittle has very unique ways in getting into the tinies of crevises. Maybe the lights spooked him and managed to rip one of its legs out. They do grow back.

So it turns out that the starfish was being underfed. I feed it dried shrimp by hand, and I think what was happening was my larger arrow crab was stealing his food. I'm making sure that he is eating now and he seems to be regenerating.
