Need help with local starfish!?

Anybody know anything about atlantic starfish?

Here is my story.....

I live in massachusetts and a buddy of mine works on a scallop (shellfish) boat. He mostly travels off the coast of Cape Cod. I get home from work today to find a cooler with two starfish in it. One large bright pink starfish, with the normal five stars, about size of a CD. 4-5". The second one was bright purple with more stars and about half the size. I'm talking bright too, surprised me something of those colors were to come out of these native waters. Anyway, both were D.O.A..

Does anyone think if i were able to keep one alive, maybe slowly raise the temperature, and keep it alive in my tank?

Just an idea right now....
Haven't been able to find a pic or anything about these starfish i saw today.

thanks....

Those seastars need cold water. Really cold. They are kept in large public aquaria in refrigerated water, about 50 F.

They are more colorful on the surface than submerged, because of spectrum changes in deep water. Red disappears first, blue last. Many deep water animals are bright red topside. Down at 100 feet they appear shadowy gray. It is interesting to turn on a flashlight in deep water, to see all the colors suddenly appear.

The starfish from up in Mass. will die in your aquarium, and turn into a stinking mess. BTW, they were probably dining on scallop when captured.

Thank you.....

didn't think it was posible, but i thought i 'd throw that idea out anyway.

thanks again
