Hi all,

I recently started a log to document the process of setting up my first aquarium in over four years. It will be a planted 75 gallon dwarf cichlid setup, supplemented by two Nano Cubes for fry and quarantine tanks.

I'm hoping to get lots of feedback as I go along, so please feel free to post comments at the log if you have any suggestions. Thank you!!

Sounds like a good idea. The nanocubes are kinda neat, but you do realize you could have gotten 8-10 ten gallon tanks for the price you paid for one of them?

Also another breeder/retailer you may want to check out for getting apistos from is Mike Jacobs at http://www.southernapistos.com His fish are always A+ and extremely beautiful, one of the more reasonable priced guys around too.

Yes, I looked into ten gallon aquariums, but after all the equipment was factored in, the nano cube actually came out cheaper - especially with the wattage I was able to get for my plant setup (2wpg in the Nano vs. 1.5wpg in a ten-gallon).

In addition, space was an issue, and the nano's smaller footprint is a great asset. However, it only loses 2" of footprint against the ten gallon, so the stocking can be relatively similar.

I've also looked into Southern Apistos, and I'm considering purchasing my M. ramirezi from him, as well as a few others sometime down the line.

Thanks again for the reply. :)

I would strongly suggest the rams from Mike, I got two pairs from him and both pairs were spawning within a week of getting them. They were the most gorgeous rams I have ever seen as well, lots of red in them. I believe he only gets wilds and Cechz bred rams.

That's correct, Mike has wild rams and F1 pairs. These days, you rarely ever find someone who can sell you rams that haven't been inbred. As the day gets closer to order the fish, I'll contact him and make a decision.

Thanks again for your input!
