Are there any fish that can company a Betta? I am looking to put a betta in a 10g but would like to add some other things for looks. What is a good setup in a 10g for these fish (substrate, plants, hiding spots, filter...). Also I found a place on the net that shows fish compatablity but can not seem to find it anymore anyone know a place? Thanks

You can get a small school of small fish in a 10 gallon with a betta. Pygmy corydoras catfish are excellent choices for several reasons. The will be active in much of the tank. They school well together. They have charming personalities. They stay small. They will not harm your betta and the betta should tolerate them well (as always, certain fish can break any rule simply because of their own quirks, for the most part, these fish should do well together). You could get 5 pygmy cories into the 10 gallon with a betta and be all right. You could choose a school of one of the smaller tetras, like neons or lemons, but they tend to stay in only part of the tank. Hope that helps, and best of luck!

Lately, I've been admiring white clouds, mountain minnows from china, would be super with a betta :) in a ten gallon.

Where can I find info and where can I buy the mountain minnow?

6 Neon tetra, 1 betta and 3 pygmy cory cats? Too many fish? This will be for an 8 year old boy, well when he is over the house to enjoy them.

Just about any fish store these days has white clouds. And yes a betta, 6 neons and 3 pygmy cories is too many fish. Basically, with a ten gallon tank with a betta as a focus fish, your options are limited to one other species of one small fish.

I would suggest neon tetras just because they go along good with Bettas.
Or even Dwarf Frogs

not a lot of choice for a 10gal......
You could put like 5 cory cats.

I still like the white cloud minnows. Cheap and available at mostly all petstores. Hardy and long lived. They can be kept at room temp, no heater required. With a betta and 4 or 5 whiteclouds, in a ten gallon, you can stick in a nice piece of asian bamboo and it will grow, and have an asian setup. Very cute and easy to keep. I think everything can be bought at walmart too ;) The bamboo is in the plant department.

I forgot, however the bamboo needs to have some of the stalk out of the water, so either an open tank or, reduce the water level inside the tank.
