Ok I am just starting with a 10gallon tank and I am worried because I found that my local petstores DO NOT have the right filters lights or anything, it is either things for 50+gallons or a little kid's fish bowl WHAT SHOULD I DO?

what kind of filters and what should I know when shopping around(my brother says to get something that has at least 100gps is that right?)

ummm 100 gallons per second? did you mean GPH? (gallons per hour) my recomendation for you is a pengiun bio-wheel mini, rated at up to 20 gallons. I always double my tanks capacity when choosing a filter. for like two dollars more you could even step up to the bio-wheel 125. You can never over-filter a tank! good luck!

I agree with Swimfins, go to a walmart to get your starter supplies. But, Beware, kinda go in with an idea of what you want, since you will get no help choosing whats good for your tank (unless you are lucky). My hometown has 2 WM's and the one's fish dept is woefully understaffed and darn near incompetant. The other is well run and you can usually get some help. be careful buying fish there, too. the same as above aplies to fish, you need to watch out for what you are getting into. inspect the tanks thoughly and ask the clerk lots of ?'s. Don't buy if you are not satisfied they are knowledgable. if they dont know fish, they probably aren't taking good care of them and they'll probably die soon after you get them home.
