starting over

A few months back my aquarium crashed and I lost a bunch of fresh water fish. For the life of me I don't know what went wrong, but since then I have been neglecting my tank as mostly all of my stock was lost. I'm down to one Black Phantom tetra and an Albino Bristlenose plec.

I need to start over. At present, I have a planted 30 gallon tank that I'm looking to restock. I've always really liked Cichlids but haven't housed any for one or more reasons; generally either my tank was too small, or the fish itself was too aggressive for what I already had. Since I will be starting over, could anyone recommend a healthy, colorful stock that will fit my aquarium?

Sorry to hear about the crash.

Also if your chemistry is right you could go with tanganyikans, like a pair of calvus/comps and shellies, like brevis, I think they'll be fine in a planted without uprooting the plants.

Thanks for the advice. We just decided last night to convert to salt water.
