so it looks like I will be coming into a 35g hex sometime next week. I'm planning to use my aquaclear 70 on it for filtration, and either a 24", 24watt T5HO (low light), or five 20watt screw-in florescents. it will be planted.

now, I am not quite sure what I want to do fish-wise with this tank. I was considering a few options:
#1: peaceful, colorful Community
in this case I would probably be keeping my guppies (5 adults and 5-6 week to two week old fry), and adding them, 2-3 male platies, a pair of honey gouramis, and something like 6 black skirt tetras or bloodfin tetras.

#2:Aggressive Community
8 tiger barbs, 6 serpae tetras, m/f pair of gold gouramis

are there any other ideas anyone has? ideas in which I could include my guppies would be apprecciated, but if I need to give them up it wouldnt be the end of the world for me.

I will have a betta sorority with some cories and maybe a handful of cherry barbs, harlies, or zebra danios in my 29g, so would prefer to use the space in the hex for other species.

Option 1 is more interesting.

I'm curious as to what everyone's opinions are of goldfish in a 35g hex. I've heard mixed opinions in this; however it seems fairly common practice to keep single goldfish in 20g high tanks, which have a similar footprint (I beleive a 35 hex is something like 23 by 15" footprint, where a 20H is 24 by 12"). I was thinking two smaller fancies. if not permanently, then how long do you think they would be able to stay in the hex? say they were 1-2" long when I got them.

you could keep a single fancy gold fish in a 20 tall with very good filteration. I used to have a Black Moor in my 30tall, before I gave it away to go salt water.

so I would assume it would be a fairly similar situation in the 35, then?
